The hottest game on iOS at the moment is, without question, Temple Run 2. The original was the product of a modest husband and wife team (plus one artist, so the game was simply produced by three people and three people alone) that went on to become a massive success, and which also single-handedly popularized the "infinite running" genre for both iOS and Android.
When word came of a sequel early last week, it hit everyone by surprise, but word was able to sufficient make the rounds because during it's first weekend of release, Temple Run 2 was downloaded a whopping 20 million times. On the first say alone, it was nabbed over 6 million times.
According to the PR blast, in under just one week, Temple Run 2 "has accumulated over 210 million sessions, which garners a combined time of over 1,775 years of gameplay."
And Keith Shepherd, co-founder of Imangi Studios, maker of the game, stated: "We are thrilled players want more of the Temple Run universe, and we hope to grow and expand the game over the coming months."
Temple Run 2 is a free app that generates revenue via in app purchases. The original was initially 99 cents and did okay. But it wasn't until it became a freemium title that the money started rolling in.
The Android version is expected later this week.
