Mew-Genics Features Cryo-Cube 5000, Lets You Freeze Your Cats

January 7, 2013 by Jordan Erica Webber

…though it’s unclear why you would want to

The latest teaser for Mew-Genics, the upcoming game from Team Meat (of Super Meat Boy fame), manages to provide new information in a way that actually makes the game even more of a mystery than it was before. The 'Cryo-Cube 5000” item makes it possible to freeze “cats/food/neighborhood squirrels” though it's not obvious why you'd want to do any of that in the game.

While we know the names and brief biographies of five characters, we have a title theme, and we know that there will be trinkets and cat pageants, we still can't be sure exactly what this game will actually entail. From the title, and the fact that we're told there will be 12,207,031,250,000,000,000,000 possible combinations of physical traits that can make up any one cat, it looks like it's going to be some kind of breeding simulation, in which you attempt to create a cat with the perfect set of traits, enter it in a few pageants and then maybe freeze it so you can preserve that perfection forever.

It all sounds incredibly odd, but given the internet generation's love of cats, it could also prove incredibly popular. We'll know for sure when Mew-Genics eventually launches for iOS and other – as of yet unannounced – devices.
