Chris Davie, game developer and co-founder of Lucid Games, has revealed information on a prototype for an “Unannounced Project” he was working on when working at the no longer existent Bizarre Creations. The post on Davie's Tumblr shows footage created with tech and assets from Blur, with new ideas implemented to test them out for the project.
The video looks pretty intense, with cars racing through the Brighton level from Blur during a storm. Heavy rain and flashes of lightning would obviously affect the way drivers navigated the course, and make for some pretty interesting racing. The video also demonstrates an overhaul on the “Shunt” power up, which had been upgraded “from the big red ball in Blur, to a big refractive energy pulse here” which “would tear up the road as it homed in on its target, leaving a trail of broken tarmac and scattered, twisted lampposts.”
Sounds pretty cool, which makes it even more of a shame that the game will never see the light of day now that Bizarre Creations has been shut down.
Did you enjoy Blur? Would you have bought something like this, had it ever been released? Can you think of any developers who might be capable of snatching up the project and carrying it through to fruition?
