There are many reasons to enjoy Grand Theft Auto. A favorite for many (myself included) is the programming found on the in-game radio, which is mostly the brainchild of Lazlow Jones. The music is great and all, but the real highlight is all the talking that goes down.
Not only does he write and produce the majority of the content himself, but he also plays the role of himself as a radio personality. Lazlow is so entertaining that he often makes the player forget about the rest of the game, which often leads to playing it safe (since a cop showing up would only get in the way).
Anyhow, Lazlow recently revealed on that Opie and Anthony Show that the master audio recordings from all the every game he has been involved in (since GTA 3, with the exception of Chinatown Wars) were almost washed away by Hurricane Sandy.
As Original Gamer notes, Lazlow's studio is located in his home. Which happens to be on a barrier island on the southern shore of Long Island, which got hit hard by the Sandy:
"The first thing I did, well, my studio is on the ground floor," Jones explained. "That's where GTA 3, Vice City, San Andreas, all those masters like the full recordings with Axl Rose and everything.
I started freaking out and grabbing, just boxes of masters and putting it up on the second floor. Cause I was like, 'I'm not going to let this stuff get ruined."
And when asked if he'll be storing the tapes in an alternate location:
"Yeah I've learned a lot of lessons and that's don't keep a lot of amazing masters from some epic video games on the ground floor near a sand bar."
Lazow will be back in Grand Theft Auto V, not just producing all the radio programming as usual, but as the host of the show Entertaining America for station WCTR.
