Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate: It’s Time for Niblesnarf

December 18, 2012 by Nick Lalone

What the @#$! is a Sammoflange

If you've been playing Monster Hunter for the last few iterations (Portable 3rd and Tri G to be exact) you will know this monster's name is Hapurubokka or ハプルボッカ. That is, until tonight.

As of tonight, this monster's name, in the soon to be released Wii U iteration of Monster Hunter, is Niblesnarf. (source)

Monster Hunter remains one of the puzzles of the east. It sells infinitely well in Japan, South Korea, and China. Monster Hunter's mechanics (co-op mode against massive monsters that offer items upon their defeat) has made it into a variety of games like Metal Gear Solid: Peacewalker and Castlevania: Harmony of Despair, Monster Hunter has also inspired dozens of clones that do make it to the United States like Lords of Arcana, God Eater Burst, and China's Hunter Blade are just a few. Even games made outside of Japan are starting to acknowledge Monster Hunter. For example, Double Fine is currently developing their project called Brazen – a Ray Harryhausen inspired Monster Hunter game.

Niblesnarf's game, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, is an HD remix of Monster Hunter Tri. This particular game will be one of the most expansive Monster Hunters released in the North America and Europe though its content is still underwhelming considering the Monster Hunter MMO available in Japan. Remixes are not unusual for Capcom and localization can be a tricky thing but the Niblesnarf incident may live in infamy for quite some time.
