It's been eight months since the Wasteland 2 Kickstarter project reached its funding goal, raising over three times the requested $900,000 and inspiring a wave of game projects independently funded by the public. In that time, inXile Entertainment has been steadily at work, most recently inviting their team of outside writers and designers to a four day table read to assess the progress.
In a new post to the original Kickstarter page, producer Chris Keenan has updated the investors on the project's development, detailing the changes and refinements to the iconic attributes and skills systems (which many future fans will already have a working knowledge of, thanks to the derivative series Fallout).
A total of seven attributes will be available when creating your character at the start of the game. Expertise, combining dexterity and agility, has been added while Perception has been switched to an attribute. Strength, Luck, Intelligence, Charisma, and Speed all remain. The skill list is subject to heftier changes, honed specifically to better tailor to the level goals and designs of the sequel:
As before, your selection of attributes will determine the starting values in your skill areas, and the game will be playable in many different ways depending on your individual play style and where you choose to invest your points. Not all skills will be practical for each character, and strategy will be key in carefully balancing your Ranger party to take on the trails of the Wasteland.
Keenan finished the update with a new piece of artwork, that of a Wasteland raider from Los Angeles:
Wasteland 2 is expected sometime in October 2013 for PC, Mac, and Linux.
