Yesterday, Goblinworks Inc. launched a Kickstarter campaign for Pathfinder Online, a fantasy sandbox MMO based on the tabletop RPG that will be “unlike any other”. The team is looking for $1,000,000 to back up its existing financing, enabling the developers to get more content into the game and get it launched more quickly, though the projected release period is pretty far in the future: early 2016, after a beta due to be launched in summer 2014.
Pathfinder Online will be “a game where your actions are persistent, your characters can build kingdoms, and YOU are the storyteller!” It'll be high fantasy, with inspiration taken from The Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, etc. The game will allow the player to control her own settlements that might one day grow into kingdoms, which all sounds very cool.
This Kickstarter campaign follows on from the $307,843 (way over the $50,000 goal) that Goblinworks already raised to create a technology demo for the game, which led the team to secure the financing needed to get started. This new campaign has already (at the time of writing) raised $96,077, nearly 10% of its goal, so people are obviously keen to see this MMO made. If you want to help things along, head over and make a pledge.
