New Super Mario Bros. 2 DLC Borrows Levels From Mario’s Previous Exploits

November 27, 2012 by Matt Hawkins

Classic courses from the NES era are alive again on the 3DS.

President of Nintendo Satoru Iwata, in a Nintendo Direct Mini earlier today, passed along some New Super Mario Bros. 2 news. For starters, over 300 billion gold coins have been collected, according to information Nintendo has been able to gather from Nintendo's SpotPass service. So to celebrate, a brand new batch of DLC has been released to celebrate the occasion.

Dubbed the Gold Classics Pack, it serves up select levels courses that are inspired by past Super Mario titles.  Specifically, levels 1-1, 1-2, and 1-4 from the Super Mario Bros 1, along with levels 1-1 and 1-5 from Super Mario Bros 3. Even the environment from the original Mario Bros is present.

Instructions on how to nab the Gold Classics Pack, as well as to see how these classic environments look in the new game, is present in the follow video. The DLC is available now and is free, though for a limited time. Come this February 1, 2013, Nintendo will charge $2.50 for the package:
