Warface Now at Five Million Users in Russia

November 23, 2012 by Alex Co

Crytek’s F2P FPS now has five million users in Russia alone.

Crytek's free-to-play shooter Warface now has over five million users in Russia. Warface, which is published by the Mail.Ru group in Russia, managed to nab over a million players in its first month of release in the country.

Mail.Ru's Vladimir Nikolsky had this to say:

Reaching the five million registered users mark speaks volumes about the quality and appeal of Warface…With a combination of first-class visuals and game play that is second to none, Warface stands out from the crowd and promises to attract even more attention from players in the future.

In addition to the milestone, Warface was also given a Runet Award for its contribution to the Russian-language internet.

Warface has yet to see release in the U.S. and it's originally scheduled for release later this year. Now, I honestly don't know if and when Warface will be available. However, it is doing big business in Asian countries like China and now even in Russia; so Crytek has that to fall on.

While Crytek is readying Crysis 3 for release in February, it's no secret that the company and its president Cevat Yerli, has been quite vocal in saying that F2P gaming is the future of gaming.

You can watch a trailer of Warface here just in case you're interested.

Any Russian readers out there? What do you make of Warface? Is it as good or does it even come close to Crysis or does it still "feel" like a F2P shooter?

Thanks, GamesIndustry
