Crytek Releases GDC Trailer for Warface, Its “AAA4Free” Shooter

March 7, 2012 by Josh Harmon

For the record, Crytek, this isn’t what I meant when I said,

Crytek has released a new trailer for their upcoming free-to-play shooter Warfare, which the company touts as a AAA free-to-play experience. The new two-minute clip, released to coincide with the game's showing at GDC, focuses on the four playable classes.

The title definitely appears to include many of the things you'd expect from a big budget modern shooter, flashy graphics not least among them, it does seem to be lacking a certain… originality. While the mech suits are a nice change of pace, something tells me Crytek is going to have a hell of a time making a serious impact with another modern shooter in the age of Call of Duty and Battlefield. The ultra-generic class names (Engineer, Sniper, and Medic? How novel!) aren't really helping things, either.

Warface will launch in Western markets later this year. You can currently apply for a spot in the closed beta on the game's official site.
