It's the first holiday weekend for the Wii U, and while many will remain boxed and tucked away, to be open come Christmas morning, quite a few will see plenty of action in the next few days. And those who cannot wait should be happy to hear of the surprise release of apps for Amazon Instant and YouTube.
Their apperance comes hot on the heels of Hulu Plus's arrival, just a few days ago, and far sooner than originally expected. Both should be available via the main menu, by the time you read this.
Unfortunately, when it comes to YouTube, first impressions are not so hot. According to Destructoid, there is absolutely no touchscreen, via the GamePad, functionality. All navigation and viewing apparently takes place on the large screen, with the smaller one simply serving up video descriptions. It was suggested that simply watching YouTube clips via the Wii U browser.
But hey, at least it's here; it took about six years for an app for the original Wii to arrive.
