Plenty of American consumers set up their new Wii Us only to find that most of the online services with icons on the home screen weren't even available, save for Netflix. But Nintendo is already starting to drip-feed us the remaining services, starting yesterday with Hulu Plus, which should be accessible to any Wii U owners in the U.S. now.
At a basic level, the Hulu Plus app delivers exactly what you'd expect: all the television shows and movies you have access to with a Hulu Plus subscription, watchable through your Wii U console. But the Wii U's second screen, i.e. the GamePad, allows for a few extra features too.
Like Xbox SmartGlass allows you to do on iOS/Android/Windows handheld devices when watching movies on your 360, when you're watching content on your Wii U you'll be able to find information about it on the GamePad. And, naturally, you'll be able to control the app with the GamePad's touch screen.
Even better, however, is the fact that you can move what you're watching from the television to the GamePad, for example when you want to pop into the kitchen without having to pause. Presumably, this also means you can use your GamePad to catch up on the latest episode of your favourite show while someone else in the house is using the television. Hulu Plus costs $7.99 a month, but those who are new to the service can try it out on the Wii U with a free 1-week trial.
