YouTube has announced on its blog that a YouTube app is finally available for the Nintendo Wii, as a free download from the Nintendo Wii Shop Channel. Through the app, you'll be able to browse through categories like gaming, music, and trending videos, as well as sign into your YouTube account to access your saved playlists and subscriptions.
The YouTube app is available from today for US owners, and will be brought to more countries over the next few months. But here's the funny thing: the Wii U – which comes out in a couple of days in the US and on the 30th in the UK – comes with a YouTube app built in. You might think it's a bit of a ridiculous time for the six-year-old Wii to finally sort itself out with YouTube integration, but then not everyone will be buying a Wii U. In fact, this might be Nintendo's way of saying it still supports those people who are sticking with their Wii for the meantime.
Will you be making use of this new ability to watch funny cat videos on your Wii, or will you be getting a Wii U in a couple of days/weeks?
