As if the franchise needed any more validation, GameStop president Tony Bartel has revealed that Treyarch's Black Ops 2 is on track to break their records. Not only that, but Bartel even claims that the title could likely be the company's biggest launch of all time.
Consumer anticipation for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is tremendous. We are seeing the highest pre-orders in history…with its current pace, this Call of Duty is on track to break records and is likely to be our biggest game launch of all time.
While Black Ops 2 tracking to be the best pre-ordered game in the company's history is no big news, what with Modern Warfare 3 managing to sell over 6.5 million units within 24 hours in the U.S. and U.K. alone, could this really be GameStop's biggest game launch of all time? Although Bartel is obviously speaking on a commercial sense so this probably is true.
Can another franchise topple Call of Duty in terms of sales? If not this gen, what about for next-gen? Do you think Call of Duty will continue its rampage or will another franchise finally catch up to it?
Black Ops 2 is scheduled for a November 13 release for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3, while the Wii U version will be released on November 18.
