Remakes, remasters, reboots, and HD collections: what exactly is the difference? Falcon is here to break it all down.

As time goes on, it becomes more and more difficult to obtain copies of older games. Due to the time and energy involved in the game development process, not starting from scratch is an appealing option. As a result it has become commonplace to see games get re-released over time with updates for new consoles.

However, many often use the words “remake” and “remaster” interchangeably, and game developers haven’t really done a lot to make them any less confusing. The confusion over the terminology and its implications as to whether or not something is worth the money being charged for it is why Gameranx is asking the question: what’s the difference between a remake and a remaster?
