Are you looking for some new dungeon crawlers to enjoy? You’re in luck, as there are more than a few that you should be keeping tabs on for 2025.
#7 The Wayward Realms
There will be many reasons to play The Wayward Realms when it arrives, but one of the biggest reasons is scope. The game is developed by members of Bethesda who worked on a certain beloved fantasy RPG series, and they’re using a game that has one hundred islands that you can roam on in a vast archipelago.
Said archipelago will have numerous characters and factions trying to make claims on it, expand, fight, and more. You’ll create your character to be whatever you want it to be, and then, you’ll have at it and see what you can do in the world.
It’s your character and story, so have fun with it!
#6 Deadhaus Sonata
With Deadhaus Sonata, you might think it’s a mindless dungeon crawler that has you playing a monster trying to wipe out humanity. But it’s a bit more nuanced than that. Yes, you are a monster, and your goal is to get revenge on the “living world” for how they have treated you and your kin. But a deep “political structure” can be toyed with here to get you a deeper experience.
Everything can affect how the story goes and how your character grows, from the loot you get to the choices you make. So don’t be afraid to try new stuff out and see what works and what doesn’t!
#5 Abyssus
For most people, finding ruins that tie back to an ancient or lost civilization would be a great thing. After all, that’s history that you have right in front of you, and who knows what it might reveal. However, in Abyssus, your job of searching for underwater ruins has accidentally gotten you trapped. As in, the ruins that you found were actually quite active, and now you have to fight your way out. Good luck with that.
You’ll have to use a variety of wild weapons to take on the denizens of this lost culture and see if there’s a way through that doesn’t involve you dying.
#4 Dungeons & Kingdoms
Imagine being in medieval times and going from a place you called home to an entirely new land to make a new life for yourself and those around you. in Dungeons & Kingdoms, that’s exactly what you’ll do. You are the leader of refugees who strike out from their homeland to make a better life in literal greener pastures.
You’ll start small and make your new homestead. Then, you’ll build your village to be more expansive and grow your own kingdom. The more you grow, the more attention you’ll get, and you’ll need to fight off enemies who come to take what you have built.
Defend your people and stake your claim on history!
#3 Dragonkin: The Banished
There are typically two kinds of dragons that you meet in video games: the cool kind and the evil kind. In Dragonkin: The Banished, you’ll meet the evil kind, as the dragons of this game’s world are so numerous and powerful that their very blood has poisoned everything. Even the ground you walk on has been soaked in their blood, corrupting it. That’s bad, so you need to rise up and change it!
You’ll play as one of four heroes and then build up your hero so that it can take on the various Dragon Lords you meet and save the world from their corruptive influence.
#2 Titan Quest II
Don’t you hate it when one of the Greek gods just goes nuts and makes life difficult for the rest of us? Silly gods! Earth is for mortals! Jokes aside, in Titan Quest II, you’ll have to go up against the goddess Nemesis, who has decided to take control of the Threads of Fate to create a world where here enemies don’t exist! That includes you, by the way.
Thankfully, the other gods are on your side for the most part, and you’ll use their weapons and skills to take down the forces of Nemesis and bring the world back to what it was meant to be!
#1 Path of Exile 2
For years, Path of Exile was a hit dungeon crawler action RPG. It was often the go-to video game for players who wanted something similar to Diablo but in a free-to-play format. Fortunately, the developers are expanding the game franchise with a new installment. This upcoming game will introduce a brand new campaign, areas, enemies, and bosses to fight against.
We are once again stepping into a new, dark, sinister world that was corrupted. But we’ll have to explore this empire to free the world from this dark grasp. Fortunately, if you have played the previous game, you know more or less what to expect here regarding gameplay. The experience should feel similar but with various expanded areas and enhancements. You should find a relatively robust set of skills to unlock and upgrade for your class.
