Stadia: How To Get A Refund

October 4, 2022 by Adam Carr

Stadia is coming to an end, but early adopters of Google’s failed service are due some potentially hefty refunds.

Google’s underwhelming foray into the video game industry has been met with a resounding thud, and with that, Stadia is dead. This comes as a bit of a surprise to many people – adopters, developers, publishers, and even Google employees to name a few. Equally as surprising is the refund policy Google has adopted in relation to their soon-to-be-buried streaming service.

In short, just about everything is refundable. This includes any of the games you may have bought using the Store or App (in-game purchases included), any hardware that you purchased, and even the more expensive deluxe-esque bundles that Google once shipped. If you have bought just about anything, you are free to get that investment returned. But how do you do it?

How To Get Refunds

Unfortunately, Google has been fairly vague on this process, however, it would seem to be email related. Stadia users will receive emails in relation to refunds in the near future, and this will (presumably) kickstart the refund process for all software, hardware, and in-game purchases.

Additionally, you will not have to return any of your purchased hardware to be eligible for a refund.

If you are no longer able to access the account you made purchases from, then worry not. Google has stated they will provide options for changing your payment instructions.

How To Refund Games

Whilst all games are being refunded through the above method, it would appear Google is still offering refunds via their standard refund policy. This, like with many services, allows players to get refunds on games they have played for less than 2-hours. This is ideal for any recent purchases you may have had prior to the termination announcement.

You can get refunds in two ways: the Stadia website, or the Stadia App.

For the website, all you have to do is the following:

  • Go to stadia.google.com and sign in to your account
  • Click on your Stadia Avatar and click Stadia Settings
  • Click on Purchases & Subscriptions
  • Under Transaction History, select which game you want to refund

If you are using the app, then do the following:

  • Sign in to the Stadia App
  • Tap on your Stadia Avatar
  • Then tap Purchases & Subscriptions
  • Finally, tap into Transaction History and select which game you want to refund.

Is Stadia Pro Refundable?

Anyone who had paid into their Stadia Pro subscription service would not be eligible for refunds for that subscription. This is, as far as we are aware, the only product related to Stadia that is not receiving the refund treatment. However, Google has stated that players can continue to use their Pro subscription, until the Stadia’s final demise.

That’s all the information we have on the upcoming wave of refunds. We will keep you informed if anything changes leading up to the termination date.
