Fortnite: What is the Collider?

May 18, 2022 by Peter Hunt Szpytek

What am I looking at?

Fortnite is a living, breathing game that’s constantly being updated with new content by Epic Games. In addition to the frequent balance changes, weapon additions, and an ever-rotating slew of cosmetics to buy, Fortnite‘s map is always changing. Although the game doesn’t feature multiple maps to play in like other major battle royales like Apex Legends, many players feel that Fortnite doesn’t need more based on the sole fact that it’s constantly evolving almost on a biweekly basis.

With the 20.40 update that went live earlier this week, players have noticed a major change to the map, among other additions. The Collider is a new point of interest located in the central area of the Fortnite island. It’s a striking new structure that’s a hot spot for teams to drop meaning that a lot of those curious can’t get a good look at it for fear of getting knocked out of a match early.

What is the Collider in Fortnite?

Currently, there isn’t much officially confirmed information on what exactly the Collider is. That said, based on its looks and a few leaks from trusted sources, it seems like the POI might have a major part to play in an upcoming event. When just looking at it, the Collider looks like the type of structure that you might see in the climactic last act of a superhero movie. It really stands out from the rest of the landscape of relatively realistic towns and cities making many think that it’ll be a prime location for a major story event.

In addition to simply looking like the type of place where something big might go down, leaker iFireMonkey shared some datamined information on Twitter about what’s to come. Phrases like “moon montage,” “moon pod,” and “moon stasis” suggest that the Collider might have something to do with the moon and space, a setting that Fortnite hasn’t truly explored up to this point. Obviously, this is all speculation, however, despite not knowing what, it seems pretty clear that something will be happening with the Collider in the coming weeks.

For now, it’s still a hot place for players to drop, but it’s packed to the brim with high-tier loot so those looking to make the most of it should try dropping nearby once or twice. As players continue exploring the Collider, more information on it might surface.
