#4 Far Cry 6

  • Developer: Ubisoft
  • Publisher: Ubisoft
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO, XSX/S, Luna
  • Release: February 18, 2021
  • Co-op: TBA
  • Competitive Multiplayer: TBA

The Far Cry franchise is getting a new main installment in 2021 with Far Cry 6. This video game follows the same formula as the past installments in which players are thrown into a chaotic world while going through the gameplay as a traditional FPS. In Far Cry 6 players are put on the fictional Caribbean island of Yara where a tyrannical dictator government control has suppressed the nation’s citizens. At the head of it all is El Presidente Anton Castillo who is raising his son Diego to have the same harsh mindset when he takes over as the nation’s leader.

A new resistance group has since formed and has been working to overthrow the government and bring the island to its once glorious state. Players will be taking the role of a resistance guerrilla soldier fighter named Dani Rojas. If you recall the previous installment, Far Cry 5, the map was relatively large and it offered a variety of missions to take care of. We’re expecting a similar setup with Far Cry 6 which is said to be the largest map the developers had worked on for the Far Cry franchise.

#3 Halo Infinite

  • Developer: 343 Industries
  • Publisher: Xbox Game Studios
  • Platforms: PC, XBO, XSX/S
  • Release: 2021
  • Co-op: TBA
  • Competitive Multiplayer: Local/Online

Fans of the Halo franchise have been waiting for a few years now to get their hands on the next installment. 343 Industries have since brought out the game for players to check out in both a cinematic trailer during E3 2019 and gameplay reveal during an Xbox Series X stream in 2020. The problem was is that fans were not pleased with the state of the game. There were some obvious glitches and lack of details which resulted in negative feedback online after the showcase. Ultimately, this prompted 343 Industries to pull the game from its intended launch alongside the Xbox Series X in order to provide the level of detail and quality fans had expected from them.

While the level of quality and details will be enhanced, we’re still left wondering just what the storyline will be about. From the gameplay footage and cinematic trailers showcased so far, it looks like humanity has fallen with a broken-off covenant mercenary group that has taken control. Players will apparently find themselves back on a Halo ring in an attempt to turn the tide. Of course, there are some changes to the gameplay as well with Master Chief having new accessories such as a grappling system.

#2 Horizon Forbidden West

  • Developer: Guerrilla Games
  • Publisher: Sony Interactive Entertainment
  • Platforms: PS4, PS5
  • Release: 2021
  • Co-op: N/A
  • Competitive Multiplayer: N/A

One of the biggest exclusives for the PlayStation 4 was Horizon Zero Dawn, a game that took place in the distant future. This action RPG title showcased a world where humanity has fallen leaving those that survive to resort back into small tribes once again while giant mechanical beasts roam the world. Little was known about the metal world that thrived years ago and with ritual guidelines keeping tribes in check, villages was able to flourish. However, players were thrown into the role of a young female hunter named Aloy who was banished from the tribe as a baby. Taken in by another banished member of the tribe, Aloy’s first journey was to discover who she was and why the tribe would banish her as an innocent infant.

Fans of the first game can get ready for its sequel which is slated to launch into the marketplace for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in 2021. This time around a new plague has hit the world quickly killing off nature and it’s left Aloy to head towards the Pacific in hopes of discovering the source of this plague. However, the journey will be a difficult one with new mechanical foes and even hostile tribal groups that have claimed territories along the way. While we know that this game is going to hit the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles, we’re curious if this installment will eventually find its way onto the PC platform much like the original title.

#1 Resident Evil Village

  • Developer: Capcom
  • Publisher: Capcom
  • Platforms: PC, PS5, XSX/S
  • Release: 2021
  • Co-op: N/A
  • Competitive Multiplayer: N/A

Resident Evil has been around for decades and we can’t get enough of this survival horror franchise. The past few years the development studio at Capcom transitioned from making new mainline installment releases to offering some remakes for their earlier titles in the series. From it we got the likes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 remade for current-generation platforms. While there’s always the possibility that more remakes are coming, Capcom is bringing out the next mainline installment to the Resident Evil franchise next which will take place a few years after the events of Resident Evil 7. If you recall, Resident Evil 7 followed a new protagonist named Ethan Winters who was on the search for his missing wife. That eventually lead him to the oddity Baker family where fans got to explore an old plantation home, solve puzzles, and fight against enemies from a first-person perspective.

With Resident Evil Village, players will once again step into the role of Ethan Winters who gets his world turned upside down once again after Chris Redfield shows up. Now Ethan is tracking down Chris to demand some answers. This will take Ethan to a large isolated village where Capcom has stated will be filled with a whole lot more exploration, puzzles, and enemies to face against. Likewise, this is another game that will be set in the first-person perspective, but we’re uncertain at the time of writing this description of whether this game will also be available for the PSVR platform.
