Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker – All Super Gems & Bonus Objectives | Episode 1 Guide

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is now available on the Nintendo Switch, and we’re revisiting it. Exploring the expansive, detailed levels in Captain Toad is a blast, but it’s really annoying when there’s a Super Gem we just can’t find. If you’re like us and you want to get 100% completion, then we’ve got all the info you need.

There are three optional Super Gems in every single level. You’ll need them to unlock the later stages of each Episode, but you don’t need them all. Finding them is a treat, so we’re going to list the locations for all the Super Gems in Episode 1 — and we’re including tips for all the Bonus Objectives. Sometimes you need to find a hidden Gold Mushroom or 1-Up. Sometimes you need to avoid something, defeat enemies, or collect lots of coins. No matter what the objective is, we’ve got a few tips to help you 100% every level.

All Super Gems & Bonus Objectives | Episode 1 Guide

There are three hidden Super Gems in every level. Finding them can be challenging, so learn where to look to find all of them in the complete list of locations below.

 

  • Plucky Pass Beginnings
    • Super Gem #1: Right near the start. Enter the alcove in the hill.
    • Super Gem #2: Near the lift. Tap the POW Block to get through the brick wall.
    • Super Gem #3: Pull the plunger near the tower ramp to raise the platform, then approach the Toads on the hill.
    • Bonus ObjectivePull the plants where the Shy Guy is patrolling to get a pickaxe power-up. Use it to break through the stone block below. The Gold Mushroom is inside.
  • Walleye Tumble Temple
    • Super Gem #1: At the spinning platform bridge, reach the small island from the first platform.
    • Super Gem #2: Inside the temple, walk right at the circular first floor spinning passage. There’s a hidden alcove here.
    • Super Gem #3: At the top of the temple, on the other side of the bridge that breaks when you try to cross it.
    • Bonus Objective: Don’t walk across the bridge at the start of the level. It will break! Just drop down instead.
  • Touchstone Trouble
    • Super Gem #1: Stand on the pink platform and move it so you can reach a hidden alcove in the blue platform wall.
    • Super Gem #2: Get the key from the blue platform, then reach the ramp leading below the pink platform. Use the key on the door here.
    • Super Gem #3: From the blue platform, near the key root, move the pink platform so you can enter a secret passage that leads to a gem.
    • Bonus Objective: To earn this objective, you need to complete the stage in three taps. To do that, walk to the pink platform, tap once, then get on the blue platform. Tap once to raise, then get on the high pink ledge. Tap blue again to reach the star.
  • Mushroom Mesa
    • Super Gem #1: On the starting path, enter the cracked wall — the second door leads to a secret path.
    • Super Gem #2: Defeat the Shy Guys by pulling turnips around the stone mushroom.
    • Super Gem #3: Near the exit, ride the three touch platforms. Enter an alcove in the third touch platform and ride it down into a secret area.
    • Bonus Objective: Use the turnips you can pull to defeat all the enemies — there are two flying birds, and two Shy Guys. Touch enemies to stun them temporarily, making it easier to hit them.
  • Double Cherry Palace
    • Super Gem #1: In the hedge maze, find the root that moves around. Corner it and grab it.
    • Super Gem #2: While going down the interior of the castle, drop down to the third basement. There’s a door on the left side here — go inside to get a super gem.
    • Super Gem #3: One floor below that, you can reach two balconies. A moving root runs between the two balconies — pull it.
    • Bonus Objective: Collect 70 coins to complete this objective. There are many hidden coins in the hedge maze — make sure you have 20 before dropping down.
  • Shy Guy Heights
    • Super Gem #1: In the corner of the first hedge maze. Just climb the ladder past the first Shy Guy and walk over the arches.
    • Super Gem #2: Across the bridge, find the wall of stone blocks on the shed-like building. Pull all the roots nearby to get a pickaxe powerup and blast through.
    • Super Gem #3: Climb up into the small house and enter the interior below the roof. There’s a gem visible through the balcony.
    • Bonus Objective: This is one of the hardest optional objectives. Don’t run or you’ll alert the Shy Guys! Move slowly, and as long as you aren’t standing directly in front of them, you can sneak by.
  • Spinwheel Library
    • Super Gem #1: Turn the crank wheel so you get stairs that can reach the alcove below the star rooftop.
    • Super Gem #2: Turn the wheel until you find an alcove in the spinning platform itself.
    • Super Gem #3: Turn the crank so there’s a flat wall of bookshelf. Walk into the alcove in the bottom-left corner and enter the purple pipe. Approach the toads below.
    • Bonus Objective: The gold mushroom can be found when you turn the platform so you can reach the exit star. There’s an alcove near the bottom of the steps that leads to the ladder.
  • Mine Cart Tunnel Throwdown
    • Super Gem #1: Right as you board the cart, immediately turn around.
    • Super Gem #2: After riding the ramp down, look left for a big square block. Hit the POW to reveal a gem.
    • Super Gem #3: Just past the second gem, there’s a tall stack of blocks. Hit the gem on top as it goes up and down.
    • Bonus Objective: Simply shoot all the flying enemies in the level.
  • Spinwheel Bullet Bill Base
    • Super Gem #1: Inside the spinning stairs that you’ll need to use to reach the double Bullet Bill cannon.
    • Super Gem #2: Spin the double Bullet Bill cannons to blast the stone blocks in the corner.
    • Super Gem #3: When you can use the crank to turn the bridge with a cannon on it, aim at the moving platform with the stone blocks. Break one, and you can ride the platform to the gem.
    • Bonus Objective: The gold mushroom is in a small alcove near the level exit. Just spin the last crank until you spot a tiny alcove.

 

  • The King of Pyropuff Peak
    • Super Gem #1: On the bottom floor, find it on a small raised platform before climbing the first ladder.
    • Super Gem #2: Check behind the second ladder — there’s a moving wall with a ladder on the opposite side. Climb it and hang on to get a flying gem.
    • Super Gem #3: At the top of the third ladder, pull all four roots. One of them is a super gem.
    • Bonus Objective: Collect 45 coins — pull every root and check every alcove. You can get way more than 45 in this level.
  • Piranha Creeper Cove
    • Super Gem #1: On the beach, look for a small cave in the rock opposite the lowest pink piranha plant.
    • Super Gem #2: From the cave, drop down into the water and turn toward the long path with the piranha plant. To get through alive, keep touching the piranha plant to stun it.
    • Super Gem #3: At the top of the level, keep walking back and forth on the hanging wooden bridge until it breaks. Then you can enter a hidden area with a root.
    • Bonus Objective: Collect 70 coins — check the corners and under the wrecked dingy for coins.
  • Briny Bowl Swimming Hole
    • Super Gem #1: Near the underwater blue pipe, pull all three roots.
    • Super Gem #2: Fall into the water from above to reach the rectangular platform. Pull the plug to make it rise up, allowing you to access the floating platform with a gem.
    • Super Gem #3: Ride the blue pipe up and walk over the wooden platform with stairs. It will sink, allowing you to reach the underwater super gem.
    • Bonus Objective: After pulling the plug on the rectangular platform, drop back into the water and pull on the sand until you find this secret Gold Mushroom.
  • Turnip Cannon Jungle
    • Super Gem #1: Enter the cave right below the starting point. Use the purple pipe inside and catch the root that moves around.
    • Super Gem #2: Underneath the exit stare, there’s a single root. Pull it to get a gem.
    • Super Gem #3: Use the turnip cannon to shoot the floating power gem in the circular hole.
    • Bonus Objective: Use the turnip cannon in the center and only fire once. Shoot the stone block that’s, well, blocking the star. Don’t hit anything else.
  • Pop-Up Prairie Town
    • Super Gem #1: Found under the very first plug platform. Pull it and drop down.
    • Super Gem #2: Near the end of the level, you’ll find two blue plugs right next to each other. Pull the plug furthest from the star, then drop down and enter the door opposite the small yellow ladder.
    • Super Gem #3: Pull the second blue plug and ride the yellow platform to the third, easily visible gem in the corner.
    • Bonus Objective: To find the 1-Up, pull the second plug and drop down. At the first vertical lift platform, cross into a hidden door.
  • Drop-Road Dash
    • Super Gem #1: Near the blue block with three roots.
    • Super Gem #2: Past another green block with three roots, on an optional track.
    • Super Gem #3: At the corner near the exit, stop at the large block and throw a turnip at the blue platform with the gem.
    • Bonus Objective: Replay the level and don’t use any turnips against the flying bug enemies.
  • Bizarre Doors of Boo Mansion
    • Super Gem #1: Pull the root to the right of the very first door on the mansion.
    • Super Gem #2: Move the touch platform and enter the bottom door to reach the corner platform.
    • Super Gem #3: On top of the giant stack of goombas. Move the platform door, and enter it so you fall on top of the goomba tower.
    • Bonus Objective: Complete the level in only four touches. You only need to touch the first touch door twice, and the second set of touch doors twice. You don’t need to touch the last door at all.
  • Blizzard on the Star Express
    • Super Gem #1: On top of the first train car, look in the third square — there’s an alcove you can easily miss.
    • Super Gem #2: Inside the passenger car, go inside the first room, climb up and drop down into the second room. Now you can get the gem in the closet.
    • Super Gem #3: Hidden in the cargo room, under a pile of breakable blocks. Touch the blocks to break through.
    • Bonus Objective: To get the 1-Up Mushroom, pull the touch cord in the train’s engine room.
  • Wingo’s Watchtower
    • Super Gem #1: At the base of the tower, find a blue plug in the back corner. It raises a platform containing the first gem.
    • Super Gem #2: Climb the tower until you reach the third floor. Go to the back, and you’ll find a tiny single platform spot you can drop down onto. Fall onto the spot to reach this gem.
    • Super Gem #3: The last gem can be reached near the end of the level. On the platform with two ladders that’s moved by wind, reach the opposite side and wait for the platform to slide to the tiny platform with a ladder.
    • Bonus Objective: Complete the level with 70 coins — pull every plug and enter every alcove to end the level with enough coins.
