LG has announced that it will be partnering with Valve to create a high-fidelity VR headset for gaming. According to the announcement, the headset will make sure of Valve’s royalty-free SteamVR 3D tracking technology.
LG has yet to share any specific details about the VR headset. However, it is quite possible the company will reveal the headset during Valve’s GDC 2017 booth next week.
It is also notable that HTC is already working with Valve on its HTC Vive VR headset. The HTC Vive made its debut last year, alongside PlayStation VR and Oculus Rift.
This is also not LG’s first venture into virtual reality. The company previously released its 360 VR headset for its LG G5 smartphone. What specs the new LG VR headset has when it launches will definitely be of interest, in addition to what platforms it will work with. There is currently no price set for the LG VR headset.
At the moment, HTC’s Vive VR headset is one of the more expensive VR headsets on the market with a price point of $799. In comparison, the PlayStation VR headset is $399, so it will be interesting to see what price point LG chooses for their newest venture.
