The Xbox One console has had a number of exclusive releases though it’s pretty obvious that the dominant titles are still Halo, Gears of War, and Forza. However, one new IP to release for the console, Sunset Overdrive, was met with positive reviews from critics and fans alike. So it’s a bit bewildering as to why the development team has yet to announce a sequel.
Sunset Overdrive launched in 2014 exclusively for the Xbox One. Now that we’re a few years into the video game’s launch, we’re still waiting patiently to see just what will come of the franchise, if anything at all.
Now thanks to Game Informer, we have statements from Insomniac Games president Ted Price regarding the lack of a Sunset Overdrive 2 and what the franchise will hold into the future. It seems that even Ted Price is confused as to why there is no sequel already in the works as the tells Game Informer to speak with Microsoft.
Regardless of Microsoft’s lack of seeing a future with Sunset Overdrive, the development team is still very passionate about the IP and it will have a future.
“You’d have to ask Microsoft. We are passionate about that franchise, and we own it, so you may see more Sunset in the future from us. No promises, and no timeline to speak of, but it is something that represents our willingness to create unexpected experiences.”
It’s possible the upcoming sequel to the video game may see a launch on multiple platforms rather than being a strict Microsoft exclusive though it remains to be seen just when we may see another installment announcement. Currently, the development team is working on a Spider-Man exclusive video game for the PlayStation 4.
