We’re just days away from the launch of the Nintendo Switch and now we’re finally learning that the Virtual Console will not be accessible when the Switch releases. The news regarding Nintendo’s lack of a Virtual Console for the Switch was showcased on the official Nintendo website in which instead, we’re learning that there will be three indie titles available from the eShop at launch.
The three eShop indie titles that will be featured for the Nintendo Switch at launch are Fast RMX, Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment, and Shovel Night: Treasure Trove. It’s unfortunate that the Virtual Console will not be accessible at the start which would have given gamers a wide back catalog of video games to enjoy on-the-go.
Additionally, it’s not been shared quite yet on if gamers will be able to access previous Virtual Console purchases from other past Nintendo consoles. Instead, there was an announcement that for gamers who already have funds within their Nintendo Account, they will have the ability to spend the money on content for the Nintendo Switch.
“People who already have funds in their accounts on other Nintendo devices can access them using a shared wallet that works on Nintendo Switch as well. Once they link their Nintendo Network ID and Nintendo Account and then their Nintendo Account to their Nintendo Switch system, this functionality becomes possible.”
Even though we may not have the Virtual Console at launch, Nintendo did state that the more information will be shared at a future date.
