Black Ops 2 on Wii U Looks Similar to Current-Gen

September 14, 2012 by Alex Co

Here’s what Activision showed off for Black Ops 2 at yesterday’s Wii U press conference in New York.

During yesterday's Wii U press conference in New York, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime saved their best "core" card for last when they asked Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Publishing for Activison, to take to the stage.

Naturally, Hirshberg was there to unveil a host of Activision games that will make its way onto Nintendo's upcoming console. Hirshberg, too, saved the best for last as he revealed what we knew all along…that Black Ops 2 is coming to the Wii U.

For those who didn't get to watch the live-stream, don't worry as you can now watch Black Ops 2 being played on the Wii U. Don't expect any next-gen graphics or whatnot, as the game looks very similar to its Xbox 360 and PS3 counterparts. Of course, the big draw here is the GamePad and how it will offer new experiences the current versions won't be able to offer.

We get to see a round of combat training but Hirshberg points out that Wii U fans should expect the "full" multiplayer experience in the final game.

So, why should you choose the Wii U version instead of the current-gen consoles or PC you have today? Well, there is the GamePad; which will not only let players play Black Ops 2 on the thing itself, but you and a buddy can literally play the game simultaneously with one using the GamePad as the screen, while the other uses the Wii U Core controller or Wii U nunchacks to play on the TV.

If Activision can pull this off with separate player profiles and with online multiplayer, I can see a lot of people using this to squad up and whatnot, no?

Black Ops 2 for the Wii U still doesn't have a release date, but it wouldn't surprise me if it's available on the Wii U's launch day on November 18.

Anyone curious to try Black Ops 2 on the Wii U? Come to think of it, will Nintendo be able to convince core gamers to forsake their friends to play Black Ops 2 on a new console?
