The Kodama, tiny green fairies that congregate around the life-saving shrines of Nioh, are the premier collectible that increases drop rates of (basically) everything you need to progress.
There are five types of Kodama, with 25 total in each of the game’s six major regions. Once you reach the world map, watch the Kodama counter for each main or side mission to see how many you still have to unlock. They only appear in specific missions, so simply returning to any region location to hunt for Kodama isn’t enough.
Here, we’ll hunt down these devious little Kodama locations. Luckily, most of them aren’t too hard to find all on your own. But these are massive areas filled with killer monsters. If you don’t want to spend all-day cutting down garbage Samurai just to explore the desecrated beaches of Kyushu, just keep scrolling to find all 25 hidden Kodama locations.
Kodama Locations [Kyushu]
Note: Kodama are glowing-green Yokai that increase one of five “blessings” at the shrine: Amrita drop rate increase, weapon drop rate increase, armor drop rate increase, elixir drop rate increase, and crafting material drop rate increase. All Kodama are specific to their region, and will not upgrade shrines in other regions. There are 25 Kodama in each region.
Main Mission: Isle of Demons – (9 Kodama)
- Kodama #1: From the first shrine, go past the hut on the right. Continue toward the hill and use the small dirt ramp to reach the second hut. Look in the covered “shed” next to this second house to find the first Kodama.
- Kodama #2: Follow the dirt path up the canyon to the revenant location near the house. Continue into the forest and turn right after entering the area with the trees. Up the small ramp you’ll reach a grassy platform with a single tree. The Kodama is behind the tree.
- Kodama #3: In this same area, to to the small shed lit by torchlight, and turn left. Follow this grass path to another revenant. Past the revenant, there’s a tree on the cliff ledge — the Kodama is to the left of the tree.
- Kodama #4: Go to the fenced-in residence with your first large Oni encounter and the locked gate. Go through the opening in the fence to the right of the smaller building in the compound. Just as you walk through the opening, turn left to spot this Kodama.
- Kodama #5: Through the locked residence gate, there’s a path over the burning village that leads to the next shrine. Exiting the residence, look down the cliff on the left. There’s a narrow ledge that contains this Kodama. Drop down from above to collect it.
- Kodama #6: Early in the burning village, climb onto the rooftops and look for a house with a ladder sticking through a hole in the ceiling. There’s a wooden platform the ladder is attached too — look under that wooden platform.
- Kodama #7: At the back of the burning village, find a ladder to reach the top of the interconnected towers near the gate leading to the beach. On the tower bridge, clear the archer and drop onto the roof beneath the second tower. There’s a shed roof you can land on adjacent with the Kodama.
- Kodama #8: On the beach (before entering the boss arena on the ship) — look for a ledge on the left edge of the water.
- Kodama #9: Right next to the burning village shrine shortcut. Follow the lower path right by the shortcut door to find it.
Main Mission: Deep in the Shadows – (8 Kodama)
- Kodama #10: Follow the rocky cliff path to the second large cavern room. Adjacent to the large chamber, there’s a smaller room that’s lit with a torch. This small store room is connected to another small storage room with a treasure chest inside. The Kodama is next to the treasure chest.
- Kodama #11: Kill the Samurai in the lower area of this cavern room to collect the Boss’s Room Key. Use it to open the locked door up the rock path with the wooden scaffold bridge. The Boss’s Room contains a treasure chest and another Kodama nearby.
- Kodama #12: Continue down below the bandit cavern, back onto the rocky cliff pass until you reach another treasure chest room. This chest is found right before the second shrine.
- Kodama #13: In the first area with the glowing neon plants, look in a hidden corner right behind the bright shrooms.
- Kodama #14: From the entrance to the first glowing shroom room, turn left and drop down a level. Partially up the linear path, there’s a Kodama along the left cave wall.
- Kodama #15: Take the ladder down further into the deep cave from Kodama #14, and cross the narrow path straight ahead. At the dead end, there’s another Kodama.
- Kodama #16: At the bottom of the cave, where there’s a shallow pool of accumulated water, find a small dead end passage flanked by crystals on the left, opposite an Oni summoning shadow. The path leads to a small dead end with a Kodama.
- Kodama #17: Continuing on, move forward in the underground and stick to the right wall. There’s another narrow passage on the right that leads to a room with a treasure chest. The Kodama is along the right wall as you follow the path to the chest.
Main Mission: Spirit Stone Slumbers – (8 Kodama)
- Kodama #18: From the start, move forward and cross two bridges on the left to reach a very horizontally-slanted tree. The first Kodama in the stage is on that bendy tree.
- Kodama #19: Starting from that Kodama, continue toward the buildings opposite the trees. Stick to the right wall. After passing behind a house, look for the Kodama nestled by a tree.
- Kodama #20: Continue to follow the right wall from the previous Kodama. There’s another house in the corner. Go to the left side of this house (between the porch and the fenced garden) and smash the crates to find a Kodama.
- Kodama #21: Continue into the larger village square filled with more buildings. There’s one house with a large stone foundation. When facing this house, go to the back-right corner and look behind a “shrine”-like structure against the right wall. The Kodama is hidden behind it.
- Kodama #22: Go through the locked East Gate to find the NPC priestess and a Yokai blocking the door. Use the “Sorry” gesture to send it away, and find the Kodama to the right in the previously-blocked door.
- Kodama #23: The next Kodama is deep inside the catacombs. Take the lift down, go left at the shrine, up the stairs, right, right again to enter a long hallway. At the fork at the far end of the hallway, go left and turn left again to spot some pots and the Kodama among the long roots.
- Kodama #24: Reach the second catacombs shrine, next to the large chamber with the living statues. From the shrine, hug the left-wall and look in the corner past the first living statue you encounter, at the base of the steps near the debris.
- Kodama #25: Take the steps up from Kodama #24 to reach a hall with rows of soldier statues on step display. Turn right here, and go up the stairs at the end of the hallway. Turn left at the top and follow the path to a room — go through the door straight ahead (instead of right) with the fire-arrow trap. Turn right at the trap and continue going straight — follow the steps up and up, into the passage on the right, going down until the path turns right. Take a left in the next room and look behind the piles of stones. There’s a missing wall that leads into a cave containing the last Kodama.
