If you own the PlayStation 4 then chances are you’re aware a new major update is slated to launch shortly. This will bring the PlayStation 4 from the current 4.0 firmware to 4.5 and with any major update slated to release from Sony, there’s bound to be plenty of additional features. While we’re still unsure when this update will roll out for gamers, Sony has unveiled some of the new features to be added in through a post on the official PlayStation Blog.
Sony is giving gamers one feature that’s been highly requested since practically the release of the PlayStation 4 and that’s external HDD support. The PlayStation 4 4.5 update will add the ability to attach a USB 3.0 HDD and store content directly on the external HDD. Apparently a HDD of up to 8TB will be supported and best of all, the content stored on the HDD will appear on the Content Launcher from the PlayStation 4 Home Menu.
Outside of the newly announced external HDD support, gamers will have the ability to add custom wallpapers through in-game screenshots which is a plus if you enjoy snapping game images regularly. 3D movies will also be supported through the PlayStation VR headset and finally, gamers will have the ability to adjust what notifications will pop-up. That’s certainly something that will be welcomed by players less interested in app updates or other notification appearances when starting up the console.
As mentioned, there is no word on when the official update will begin rolling out to gamers. Instead, the post makes mention that other details regarding the update will be announced in the coming weeks ahead.
