Released last year to much praise, the tearjerker To The Moon ended in a way that suggested a second episode. Now, we have official announcement of that second episode existing. It comes with the news that To The Moon will see a release on Steam. September 7th is the date to mark on your calendars according to lead developer Kan Gao. Those who have purchased the game before through other services will be able to request a Steam key. That's a great gesture that many will appreaciate–just gotta remember to send in a request!
Though the Steam version has a date, the second episode doesn't just yet. According to Rock, Paper, Shotgun this is the premise:
“The life will be that of a new patient; however, there’s always a chance to see some familiar faces since the story takes place in past memories.”
That makes sense given the, err, status of your previous patient. Having the game follow him wouldn't make any sense! For those that don't know, though, To The Moon is about a couple of scientists who go into people's memories in order to fulfill that person's dying wish. What they do is, they alter your memories so that you think you did whatever you wanted most. But the process is so invasive that it can only be done on dying patients. So you may die, but you go thinking you were fulfilled in life…and if you think you did it, who is to say otherwise? A fascinating premise, to be sure.
So of course the new episode has to be about someone new–but the doctors make a return. The first episode of To The Moon characterized them a bit, and we're likely to learn more about the doctors in the coming episodes.
You can check out the first game, should you lack the patience for the Steam release, here. Everyone else, just sit tight for a few days.
