Star Wars: Force Arena – PSA: Tier Up Before Purchasing Premium Packs

January 17, 2017 by Kevin Thielenhaus

On iOS & Android: The tier system in Star Wars Force Arena blocks higher tier cards from being unlocked, even if you purchase the Premium Packs.

You can’t exactly pay-to-win in Star Wars: Force Arena. Even if you’re eager and purchase card packs from the premium store, you won’t unlock the best cards available. Don’t waste your money right when you get started — save your cash and use it once you’ve gained enough experience to Tier Up once or twice.

Here, we’ll explain what it means to upgrade your Tier in Star Wars: Force Arena, and what you’ll want to spend your hard-earned money on. Don’t waste cash on piddly Gold Card Packs — Diamond Packs are what you’ll want, and we’ll explain why below.

PSA: Tier Up Before Purchasing Premium Packs

In Star Wars: Force Arena, card packs only contain the cards you’ve already unlocked. Cards are unlocked by going up to certain tier levels.

  • Tier Level is different than Player Level. Your Player Level is determined by what cards you’ve earned and upgraded — and increasing your Player Level will upgrade certain cards to make them even better.
    • Tier Level is earned by completing 1vs1 or 2vs2 battles online. You don’t earn points in Training, you’ll need to test your skills against online opponents.

You can check the Tier Level requirements for all available cards in the Deck tab. Swipe up to access the Card Collection and examine your cards — some cards require you to reach Tier Level 4 before they can be unlocked.

Check the Tier Level of the cards you’re looking for before purchasing Premium Card Packs. Below, we’ll cover what Card Packs will give you and which you’ll want to save up for.

  • I was able to reach Tier Rank 2 in about 3 1vs1 battles. It’s very easy, so don’t waste cash before you play a few battles!

Card Packs — Which Are Best?

There are five tiers of Card Pack available in Star Wars: Force Arena, but only three can be purchased; Gold, Platinum, and Diamond. Card Packs, when purchased from the Premium Store, unlock instantly. Otherwise, packs require a 4-8 hour wait to unlock. Victory Packs can be stacked in bunches of 4-5 (5 if you purchase the Premium Booster, which cuts the wait time by 50% and adds an extra slot.) — and you can unlock one pack at a time.

The Play Packs are earned by collecting Play Points. You’ll earn more Play Points for winning battles, but you’ll always get some just for participating. Free Packs are special rewards — both Play Packs and Free Packs (just like Premium Packs) can be opened instantly, and don’t require a wait timer.

Here’s what you’re guaranteed to get in each pack:

  • Gold Pack:
    • Cost:
    • Credits: 280-360
    • Cards: 40
    • Guaranteed Rarity: 9x Blue, 1x Purple
  • Platinum Pack:
    • Cost:
    • Credits: 560-720
    • Cards: 80
    • Guaranteed Rarity: 16x Blue, 2x Purple, 1x Orange
  • Diamond Pack:
    • Cost: 2,090 Crystals
    • Credits: 1,120-1,440
    • Cards: 160
    • Guaranteed Rarity: 5x Purple, 1x Orange, 1x Legendary

Diamond is the most expensive tier, but it’s also the most worthwhile. This is the only Card Pack that guarantees a Legendary Card — Legendary Cards are Hero cards, and if you’re eager to unlock more heroes or upgrade your favorite, you’ll need to save Crystals for Diamond Packs.

  • The downside? 2,090 Crystals isn’t cheap. A pack of 1,100 Crystals costs $9.99 — so the Diamond Pack, in total, costs about $20.00. That’s a high asking price for a single random hero.

But, you can still earn heroes through other means — log in daily and you’ll receive a hero as a 7 day reward bonus. Complete missions (Special or Basic) to unlock heroes. Complete 8 Basic Missions to unlock Han Solo for free.
