According to the Polytron official Twitter account, beleaguered social games developer approached the Fez creators to port the game to mobile.
The tweet, captured in the image above, shows Polytron alleging that they “politely refused” the offer, afterwards joking that they expect a lazy clone of the game (Fex, as they call it) “any day now.” All joking aside, they assure that they really were, in fact, approached.
Touch Arcade, who provided a brief report of the story, wrote that “Zynga tried to nab Fez as a Zynga Partners game. It's a program designed around drawing more "core" gamers into its social networks, so the shoe kinda fits.”
Zynga, which has been experiencing drooping stock and legal troubles, are set to release their first Zynga Partners game, Horn, “soon,” which is rather ambiguous, except to say that the fantasy adventure game is meant to release for iOS this month.
