Super Mario Run Will Require Internet Connection to Play

December 9, 2016 by Jordan Biazzo

Next week Super Mario Run is all yours!

Next week is the launch of Nintendo’s first mobile game, Super Mario Run; and while many fans are excited to get their hands on the game, they might be a little disappointment in the latest tidbit of news.

In an interview with Mashable, Shigeru Miyamoto, creator of Mario, stated that Super Mario Run will need to always be connected to the internet in order to play the game; this will allow Nintendo to prevent piracy. The reason of this is because the game is releasing across 150 countries and “each of those countries has different network environments,” with Miyamoto adding that “it was important for us to be able to have it secure for all users.”

Miyamoto goes on to say that all three modes of the game must be connected to play as it will “keep all of the modes functioning together and offering the game in a way that keeps the software secure.” Nintendo seems dedicated on keeping Super Mario Run safe from piracy and any other sort of harm to their first mobile game.

This isn’t terrible news, it just means you’ll need to play the game where your phone can reach the internet, which thankfully is most places. Nintendo recently released two new trailers for the game as well. The first trailer is an introductory look at gameplay, course elements and different game modes, while the second is a live-action promotional video.

Super Mario Run is scheduled to release on December 15 for iOS devices.
