Red Dead Redemption was a massive hit when it first released into the public back in 2010. The video game gained a following and now that Rockstar has officially confirmed a sequel, Red Dead Redemption 2, it has us thinking back to the cast of characters we met along our original journey.
There are plenty of interesting characters within Red Dead Redemption but here are some of our favorites that we wouldn’t mind seeing again at some point during Red Dead Redemption 2. Since we still don’t know just where Red Dead Redemption 2 is set to take place, it’s tough to narrow our selection of characters.

Red Dead Redemption Spoilers Ahead
Nigel West Dickens
Who can forget Nigel West Dickens, a man that John Marston hated to work with but managed to come in handy from time-to-time. Nigel West Dickens was a real con man as he would swindle innocent townsfolk with miracle cures along with fixing any psychological problems.
Why just one sip of his special elixir could allow a man to put a bullet through a tossed hat before it hits the ground. This old swindler makes a habit of moving from one town to the next and it’s likely he has his own adventures to tell. It would be interesting to see if our next protagonist bumps into Nigel West Dickens just as John Marston did.
Seth Briars
Everyone remembers Seth Briars, you might not remember the name, but you can’t forget the crazy lunatic speaking to the dead and hunting for unimaginable wealth. During the campaign of Red Dead Redemption, John Marston finds Seth to be almost feral in nature. We soon learn that this dirty old man has gone mad as he uses an old treasure map to find a means to get rich quick.
While Seth might not have found his gold and wealth while John Marston was on his quest, we do learn in the epilogue that Seth does find his riches after all. With the money and the cursed hunt out of his mind, Seth is able to get his family back together and opened an unspecified business in Blackwater.
In the sequel to Red Dead Redemption, it would be interesting to see Seth before he heads out on his treasure hunt or even where he stands after Red Dead Redemption epilogue.
Dutch Van Der Linde
Dutch Van Der Linde was a leader of the infamous Dutch’s Gang, who’s members included characters such as John Marston and Bill Williamson. While Dutch was painted as a murderous gang member by the government, there was another side to Dutch’s philosophes.
Overall, Dutch saw himself and his gang as a means to help those in need much like a Robin Hood-style character, take from the rich and give to the poor. Although, as the old west began to die off to a more modern government focused society, Dutch realizes that folks like him simply don’t belong.
John Marston clearly didn’t want to take on Dutch, the man who taught him everything and became much like a father figure while his days in the gang. During their ordeal, John attempts to talk Dutch into turning himself in, but Dutch reveals to John that much like himself, they can’t simply change. Dutch doesn’t turn the gun on John Marston at the end and while Marston holds the upper-hand, Dutch accepts death and leaps from a cliff.
Bonnie MacFarlane
Bonnie MacFarlane is one tough character. We first meet Bonnie after she manages to come across a nearly dead John Marston and allows him to recover in her barn. During our time with Red Dead Redemption, we learn that Bonnie is one of the last surviving members of the MacFarlane family and with only one surviving brother that lives in New York, Bonnie takes it upon herself to be the “man” of their family ranch.
Throughout Red Dead Redemption, Bonnie helps John Marston out, though through her affiliation with Marston, she becomes an easy target against Bill Williamson and his gang. This has left Bonnie in a fragile state, but at the end of the game, Bonnie holds strong and continues running the family ranch.
Jack Marston
Jack Marston is the son of John Marston and a character we don’t see very much of in Red Dead Redemption. While Jack loses his father shortly after being reunited, Jack seeks out his revenge after the epilogue. What we don’t know is if we’ll see Jack Marston follow his father’s footsteps or if by killing the man who ended John Marston’s life or if it allowed Jack enough closure to live in peace.
John Marston
Obviously, we wouldn’t mind seeing our old protagonist make a return. A prequel to Red Dead Redemption could show John Marston in the infamous Dutch’s Gang, where a more wild and ruthless old west may catch the start of John Marston’s ending outlaw career. Since Red Dead Redemption 2 doesn’t label itself as a prequel, this could be wishful thinking.
