Hello Games Claims it was “Hacked”

October 28, 2016 by Ian Miles Cheong

Who can tell what’s really true?

Earlier this morning, Hello Games tweeted out that “No Man’s Sky was a mistake.”

After Polygon reached out to Sean Murray, they were informed by him that he had personally made the tweet and that it was later removed by other members of the Hello Games team. This was done via e-mail.

“The tweet is from me, but somebody from the team took it down. We have not been coping well,” it said.

Forbes reached out separately to Hello Games, which confirmed that a disgruntled employee had made the tweet and that they were dealing with the issue internally.

On its No Man’s Sky twitter account, the studio is now blaming the tweet it posted on the Hello Games twitter account as a “hack,” claiming that it had its servers compromised. It’s also stating that the emails sent by Sean Murray to the press were not real.

.@NoMansSky 100% not hacked anymore… obviously those mails and that tweet were fake. Back to work 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻

Server hacked. We're binging Mr Robot Episodes as quickly as we can looking for answers. Ep05 is a cracker

— Sean Murray (@NoMansSky) October 28, 2016

It’s inconclusive as to whether the accounts were actually hacked, or if the team at Hello Games had managed to talk down Sean Murray (or another disgruntled employee) from making a bigger mess of things.
