There has been plenty of talk recently with the upcoming Beyond Good & Evil 2 video game installment. It’s been nearing a decade since it was officially unveiled that Beyond Good & Evil would be receiving a sequel and since that announcement, gamers have been eagerly waiting for any news of its upcoming release. Unfortunately, the game development progress has been tremendously slow and thanks to an Instagram post by series creator Michel Ancel, we now know why we’ve been waiting so long.

Within the Instagram post, Michel Ancel reveals that the development team had several different prototypes available in the past, but there were too many technical issues. In his vision of Beyond Good & Evil 2, players would be able to explore planets, space travel, with several city locations. This was something that was also meant to be available within the first Beyond Good & Evil, but there were technical issues that got in the way.

2008 Characters . The game was playable with many prototypes . All videos where realtime but we had too much technical issues . We wanted planet exploration , space travel , cities … All this was also supposed to be in BGE 1 … Instead of not doing the game of our dreams , we decided to return to 2d , have fun with Rayman and go back at work for Beyond good and Evil 2 . We still have loooooots of work but now the tech is ready and the team is fantastic !

Now it seems that the technology is ready and the development is going strong, though there is still a long road ahead of them. What’s interesting to note is that Michel Ancel continues to state the title as Beyond Good & Evil 2 which may put the previous rumors and reports of this upcoming title being a reboot of the franchise to rest.

Furthermore, within the comments section, Michel Ancel also reveals that there are no specific platforms for the video game yet. Another rumor that was starting to pick up around the web had suggested that Beyond Good & Evil 2 would be a Nintendo NX exclusive.
