The initial Rise of the Tomb Raider video game came out for Xbox One last year, following up on the successful 2013 Tomb Raider franchise reboot. Lara Croft is trying to make sense of her encounter with the paranormal on Yamatai, and she ends up following in her father’s footsteps by looking for the ancient city of Kitezh and the legend of immorality associated with it. The gameplay was developed further off the foundation of the 2013 title, giving players a mix of exploration, stealth/combat, and throwing in the occasional platforming section and puzzle to solve. Critics loved the game – despite the console exclusivity that loomed over the whole thing. But now with the recently released Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration, there’s no need to worry about any of that.
What this package comes with is a new singleplayer chapter titled “Blood Ties”, where Lara explores her family’s mansion. There’s a zombie battle mode called “Lara’s Nightmare,” Co-op Endurance gameplay, and a new difficulty mode called “Extreme Survivor,” providing a next level of challenge to face. There’s also a 20 Year Celebration outfit, an exclusive gun, and 5 classic Lara skins you can use to spice your playthrough of the game up a bit. This edition also includes every previously released bits of DLC. The two big things this is referring to here are the Baba Yaga: The Temple of the Witch and Cold Darkness Awakened add-ons. The former of which has Lara battling against an evil witch that’s able to take advantage of a special pollen, while the latter has our protagonist stopping a Soviet experiment that created a zombifying pathogen.
Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration is now available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Check out Kyle Foley’s first impressions of it over here. To learn more about the game, check out their website, Twitter, and Facebook.
