Halo 4 to Rename “Teabagging” to “Victory Crouch,” Devs Think it’s an “Important Part of the Experience”

June 14, 2012 by Alex Co

FPS fans shouldn’t call this douche move teabagging anymore, it’s now called the "victory crouch" in Halo 4.

343 Industries has confirmed that "teabagging" fallen foes will indeed be back for Halo 4. Of course, they don't call it that anymore, instead it's now called the "victory crouch."

For those who don't play a lot of shooters, teabagging is the act of one player crouching up and down on a fallen foe's body to simulate a sex act. If it's still unclear to you, here's a video just so you know what we're talking about.

Yeah, it's not really done with good intentions in mind. In saying that, 343 might be keeping that "mechanic" in, but they're altering it for those who don't want to get teabagged.

Now fallen players can just press X to respawn. They don't have to wait or watch while their corpse is being defiled by dudebros across the world. Not only that, but one of the game's lead multiplayer designers, Kevin Franklin, even reveals that now players can customize to "extend the victory crouch window" if they want — although "feature" hasn't been confirmed to be in online multiplayer but just in split-screen.

Why keep this degrading mechanic at all, then? Allow 343's David Ellis to explain.

It's an important part of the combat experience…The Halo sandbox lets players do so much, and that's just one of the things people have found.

Gotcha there, David! While I've teabagged my fair share of enemies, I do admit that I do it for fun and not really to demean my fallen enemy.

Do you do the "victory crouch" when you kill someone online? Is 343 right in keeping this in or would this reinforce the stereotype that FPS multiplayer fans are crass "dudebros?"
