The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Reveals Delay Reasoning

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was set to release this year for the Nintendo Wii U, however, fans of the longstanding Nintendo franchise, the game was meant with a delay. Now gamers who are interested in picking up The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will have to wait until 2017.

Most of us speculated the delay was to allow the game to release alongside Nintendo’s upcoming console, codenamed the NX, but now a producer has come out and revealed just why gamers won’t be able to pick the game up until next year.

Producer for the Zelda series, Eiji Aonuma, spoke with the Edge in which the magazine quote was brought into the light by Nintendo Life. Apparently, the reasoning behind one of the biggest franchise installments from Nintendo was delayed is because the lack of communication between himself and the development team.

Eiji Aonuma revealed that the development team would have these milestone check-ins and during these check-ins, Eiji would talk about various points that could be worked on though he failed to reveal certain aspects that he felt worked perfectly. This caused the developers to go back and rework most of the gameplay around leaving the once desirable mechanics to be trashed.

“We have these milestones during development. I play the game, then give staff my comments, my advice on what direction they should be heading in. At one of the milestones, the game was fantastic. There were so many great elements. But at the next milestone, that was all gone.

I’d made a lot of comments about what they needed to add, but I never told them what I thought was good about the game at that milestone. So they added stuff that I’d recommended, but they also added some other elements they thought would work well – and that ended up breaking all the good parts of the previous build. I learned that, when it’s good, I have to say so. If I’d managed that we’ll, maybe development wouldn’t have extended quite so much.”

It seems that the development team and the producer needed to work on their communication a bit as this issue caused some backtracking and ultimately the game delay. Regardless, there are still plenty of fans eager to get their hands on a copy of the upcoming Zelda title.
