Until Dawn 2 Is Not In Development

June 24, 2016 by Dennis Patrick

Supermassive Games are not currently working on an Until Dawn sequel.

Last year it was clear that there was one title that stood above the rest within the horror genre and that was Supermassive Games Until Dawn. Fans have been asking about the sequel to this incredible behemoth of a video game since Until Dawn launched, but we’re afraid to report that the sequel is still not currently in development. The news comes from an interview between Supermassive Games managing director Pete Samuels and video game news outlet GamesIndustry.biz.

“There’s a lot of speculation about what we’re doing and what we’re working on right now. We’re not working on Until Dawn 2 at the moment. We’re working on other things.”

It may come to some surprise to fans that Until Dawn’s development team isn’t seeking out a sequel to their incredible hit video game quite yet, but that doesn’t mean there are not looking for the same success with their other current titles.

The development team has been actively working on two current projects, both of which are exclusive to the PlayStation 4 console. For starters, there is the Tumble VR video game and the Until Dawn spinoff called Until Dawn: Rush of Blood. Gamers shouldn’t expect the same feel as Until Dawn within the spinoff as it’s an on-rails shooter, but based within the same universe as the original title.

Furthermore, Supermassive Games revealed that the development team was interested in going multiplatform. That will likely be a problem for Until Dawn 2 as the video game IP is owned by Sony and that ultimately means the game franchise will continue to be a Sony exclusive title.

Regardless, because of the critical success Sony and Supermassive Games received for their Until Dawn IP, we imagine the video game will become a long lasting horror-based series that will see plenty of sequels and spinoff titles.
