Mass Effect 3 Patch Does More Harm Than Good

April 11, 2012 by Jacob Saylor

The fix creates more holes than patches…

Today, a patch bearing the veritable name of ‘Patch 2’ was released to the current population of internet-connected Mass Effect 3 players. This patch was supposed to address many players’ complaints and concerns about bugs they were experiencing during gameplay, but it seems there are a few free radicals in the patch’s framework…

‘Patch 2’ did indeed fix the previous problems, but – as you have probably already guessed by now – did introduce new ones.

A number of posts have reared their heads on the Bioware forums with disgruntled users, all wanting answers from the company. Bioware has not been on the ball to say the least, but some of the more tech-savvy forum users have been assisting one another in fixing gameplay issues.

There is a temporary fix for the multiplayer portion of Mass Effect 3 out right now. We have taken the liberty of copying it over to Gameranx for ease-of-use, but if you want to read it from the source, follow that link. It will hurt our feelings if you do, though. We love you.

“Here's how it works:
1)Go to the Xbox Dashboard. Access your main storage device.
2) Delete the N7 Warfare pack. (This DLC seems to cause the game to freeze immediately after reaching the main menu after the patch is downloaded).
3)Move all of your save files for singleplayer to a secondary storage device such as a flashdrive or memory card.
4)Disconnect the secondary storage device from your Xbox.
5)Start up ME3.
6)The main menu screen should now appear, and the left-hand menu should be accessible with the options "New Game", "Multiplayer", and "Extras". (NOTE: If you have auto-sign-in to EA Servers enabled, the game might freeze at this point, making my solution inapplicable.)
7)Click on "New Game".
8)Select "Import ME2 character".
9)Exit the "Import ME2 Character Screen". Return to the main menu.
10)Click Multiplayer. Game should successfully connect itself to EA servers at this point and launch multiplayer.

If this doesn't work, try clearing your cache, then attempting steps 5-10 again.”

Thanks, forum user vonSlash!
