During the past few months, there has been a growing concern with gamers who had purchased one if not both of the latest generation of consoles. Both Microsoft and Sony are preparing to launch updated consoles for both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Today we’re learning that Sony president Shuhei Yoshida has spoken out about the rising concern of the PlayStation 4 facing a shorter life cycle than what many gamers expected.

Shuhei Yoshida spoke with Gameswelt.TV on the matter of Sony’s upcoming PlayStation Neo console. This is Sony’s updated PlayStation 4 console that will have improved components compared to the original PlayStation 4. However, you don’t have to worry about the PlayStation 4 dying off anytime soon as Yoshida states that these consoles are still within the same console generation with both selling on store shelves throughout the duration of the consoles lifecycle.

“The PlayStation 4 is the PlayStation 4 and the new high-end PS4 is still PS4, so the life cycle is not going to be shorter.”

However, what Sony is doing with the PlayStation Neo is still under wraps compared to Microsoft’s Project Scorpio, a console that had a brief mention during Microsoft’s E3 press conference. Sony confirmed before the E3 event that the PlayStation Neo would not be shown off, though Shuhei Yoshida admits that he was surprised to see Microsoft announce their upcoming console already.

“I was not expecting them to talk about (Project Scorpio). It’s very very super interesting what they are doing.”

While Sony may be tightlipped on the PlayStation Neo, there has been some speculation that will see this console release sooner rather than later as the PlayStation VR will be launching this October 13, 2016. Regardless, current PlayStation 4 owners don’t have to worry about once again paying a hefty amount to stay with the latest generation of gaming.
