Since its grand E3 reveal during Sony’s PlayStation press conference, fans of the Resident Evil series are hyped more than ever for the release of Resident Evil 7. The game is taking a unique spin compared to past main installments to the Resident Evil franchise by putting players in a first-person view perspective. While the game doesn’t release until next year, 2017, it was stated that Capcom is about 65% complete with the overall game development.
Recently, Famitsu had the chance to sit down with Resident Evil 7 producer Kawada Massao and the video game director Nakanishi Koushi. Thanks to the interview translation by Play-Asia, we discovered that Capcom is just over halfway done with the video game development.
Capcom has been hard at work with the game since February 2014 after Takeuchi Jun, the main developer of the Resident Evil franchise decided to create the next main installment. A little over two years have passed since the development of Resident Evil 7 has started and Capcom is just over halfway done with the video game development.
Kawada Massao stated the following.
“We have various Resident Evil games co in out to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the series. With games such as RE7, the shooter Umbrella Core and the yet to be announced awaited title, we want people to really enjoy what RE can still offer and the variety of the games that’s will be released.
It’s been a while but horror fans just have a little while to wait till Resident Evil 7 releases early 2017.
We are about 65% through the development process of the game, but you can enjoy the experience given in the standalone demo available to download through the PlayStation 4 store or with the PlayStation VR headset on the E3 floor. More news coming soon but for now, please enjoy!”
Another interesting aspect that came from the interview was that Capcom gave an early hint about Resident Evil 7 last year. During E3 2015, Capcom showed off a playable tech demo called Kitchen and within the logo, the letter “t” had a line cut through it to make it look like the number “7” in order to indicate a tease of Resident Evil 7. However, it was mostly missed by gamers attending the event.
