June 14, 2016 by Dennis Patrick

Sniper Elite 4 gets hit with a delay due to another big game launch from development team.

There have been plenty of new video game announcements and reveals during E3 this year and unfortunately, we’ve seen plenty of titles we’ll have to wait until 2017 in order to play. We can officially add another one of those stellar video game titles to the 2017 release list as news came out that Sniper Elite 4 has been delayed.

Sniper Elite 4 is current in-development under Rebellion Developments. This is the fourth main installment of the Sniper Elite tactical shooter franchise with the game being set in Italy, 1934, immediately following the events of Sniper Elite III.

Players will be controlling Karl Fairburne, an Office of Strategic Services agent who has been tasked to assist the Italian resistance force in order to fight off the fascists during World War II. For those of you who have been waiting to pick the game up, you’ll have to wait just a bit longer and it’s simply due to the fact that the development team is preparing to release another big video game launch this year for the PlayStation VR.

Jason and Chris Kingsley, co-founders of Rebellion explained the reasoning behind the unexpected delay.

“When we revealed Sniper Elite 4 back in March our plan was to release it at the end of 2016. However, we now know Battlezone will release in October as a launch title alongside PlayStation VR. That gave us a tough decision to make. Ultimately, we’re a relatively small independent studio, and releasing two major titles in the same quarter didn’t seem like a sensible thing to do.  A few of our shared internal teams will probably sleep a bit easier now!”

That doesn’t mean Sniper Elite 4 will be sitting gathering dust before its release. Rebellion Developments will take this delay opportunity to further tweak and work on previous preview feedback to see Sniper Elite 4 shape up to a video game title players have been patiently waiting for.
