Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV to Debut in Select Theaters

June 14, 2016 by Nicole Carpenter

Square Enix and Sony have released a behind-the-scenes look at the film.

Square Enix and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment’s Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV will come to select movie theaters on August 19, IGN announced today. The film is expected to be released for Blu-ray and digital download this fall.

Additionally, the studios have released a behind-the-scenes video showcasing the actors behind the animated feature film—Breaking Bad‘s Aaron Paul and Game of Thrones actors Sean Bean and Lena Headey.

Bean will play King Regis of Lucis, the commander of an “elite force of soldiers called the Kingsglaive.” Nyx—played by Paul—is a magic-wielding soldier fighting to protect the King. According to Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV‘s official synopsis, the King will be faced with an “impossible ultimatum.” He’ll have to marry his son, Price Noctis, to Princess Lunafreya, played by Headey, or surrender his land.

Here’s the full synopsis:

“The magical kingdom of Lucis is home to the sacred Crystal, and the menacing empire of Niflheim is determined to steal it. King Regis of Lucis (Sean Bean) commands an elite force of soldiers called the Kingsglaive. Wielding their king’s magic, Nyx (Aaron Paul) and his fellow soldiers fight to protect Lucis. As the overwhelming military might of the empire bears down, King Regis is faced with an impossible ultimatum – to marry his son, Prince Noctis to Princess Lunafreya of Tenebrae (Lena Headey), captive of Niflheim, and surrender his lands to the empire’s rule.  Although the king concedes, it becomes clear that the empire will stop at nothing to achieve their devious goals, with only the Kingsglaive standing between them and world domination.”

At E3 this week, Sony also debuted a new trailer for Final Fantasy XV. The game will be available on September 30 for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
