Sony has is bringing AI upscaling to their regular PS5 consoles too.

As they explain on PlayStation Blog, Sony is launching Quick Spectral Super Resolution (QSSR) on PS5 consoles to match PSSR on PS5 Pro.
Like PSSR, QSSR comes from Project Amethyst, their collaboration with AMD. Regular PS5 consoles can run a streamlined neural network to get many of the same visual effects PS5 Pro consoles get with PSSR.
QSSR is launching on their most recent games, Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei, but Sony will offer it to other developers. But therein lies the rub.
Sony is certainly asking a lot to get their publishers to optimize their games with QSSR after creating an entire system of PSSR. Can publishers justify putting this extra work, especially given the current business environment for video games?
This could be an additional selling point for regular PS5 consoles, but consumers may also not really care. We’ll see how this new upscaling solution lands when it comes to actual revenue.
