XBOX’s disc-to-digital program is now live.
After months of rumors, XBOX officially announced the program last month. It started out with a soft launch for XBOX Insiders, but today if officially goes live for all XBOX users.
While it was under XBOX Insiders, fans figured out what games were in the program on their own. They also put pressure on 3rd parties to join the program, most recently, SEGA.
This has been great for XBOX users who have built up XBOX One and XBOX Series disc libraries in the past decade, but XBOX wants to make it clear that this is more than a one-off move for clout.
The official Gears of War Twitter account said this:
Gears of War: E-Day will be part of the Disc to Digital program when the game releases for early access on Oct 1.
It certainly sounds like XBOX Disc-to-Digital will also be the default for XBOX games moving forward. And it implies that Project Helix could have physical discs to continue this program. But we should wait for XBOX’s official word.
