Hideo Kojima revealed the ‘serious situation’ his company Kojima Productions was in.

Earlier today, Kojima Productions shared a statement assuring the public that they are healthy and profitable. But it also alluded to a serious situation that it entered when PHYSINT was cancelled.
In an interview with IGN, Kojima shed light on how his company is financed. He said this:
…I only have two projects in my studio: OD and Physint. And I hire according to how many projects we have, and we have two.
If we lose one contract, I thought I might have to cut all the people working on Physint, right? Or our studio could end up collapsing because we’ll run out of cashflow.
I’ve borrowed money from the bank for funding as well. At first [when we established the studio] they didn’t listen to us at all.
After a while when we got a title out, they were like, “We’ll lend you money.” If they find out that a project has been stopped or canceled, we’d be in big trouble.
Based on all this, Kojima was facing potential financial ruin if he didn’t find a publisher, and we’d be having a completely different conversation today.
