John Linneman of Digital Foundry has lend weight to rumors that PlayStation’s plans to stop making physical games has led to industry backlash.
He said this in the latest DF Direct Weekly after attending Gamescom:
This was the first event I’ve been able to attend since the discontinuation of discs were announced and I spoke to a lot of developers and publisher people about it and they were largely very upset.
A lot of these companies actually see a lot of return and in fact the majority through physical sales and I feel like this is really going to affect a lot of businesses.
…And I get the feeling that a lot of these companies are really they want to put their weight behind uh the Switch 2 now and sort of like try to keep that alive.
…There seems to be a lot of resentment for uh what Sony has done and what they’re doing. And I’ll be curious to see if that actually manifests in any way that’s tangible.
Washington Post editor Gene Park has lent weight to these claims, saying they are ‘not just rumors.’ It makes us wonder if the earlier rumors are also real.
