Sony is now spreading the word on their decision to stop making physical game discs for PlayStation consoles.

Spanish speaking content creator Behind The Games shared a screenshot of this message printed on the PlayStation 5’s packaging:
IMPORTANT NOTICE
From Jan. 2028, newly released games on PlayStation will be available for purchase on PlayStation Store and at retailers in digital format only. Discs for games released before Jan. 2028 can continue to be played on this console.
They claim that this was shared to them by someone else, so it may be printed on boxes in or outside of Spain.
Sony CFO Lin Tao explained in their latest earnings call that announced plans a year and a half before it goes into effect. This gives them enough time to communicate the change with consumers and business partners, and resolve any potential issues that arise.
So we shouldn’t be surprised that this messaging will be added to PS5 packaging from now until when they stop making the console.
