Wildlight Entertainment has finally revealed and launched Highguard. With the controversy of the The Game Awards boiling over, it’s time to ask; what even is this game?

Wildlight initially described it as a PVP raid shooter, and now we know how it works. Players start by forming two teams of three and choosing from a prebuilt set of bases. They can then build up their bases and customize their loadouts.
When they’re ready, players ride out on their horses to find and harvest loot, including guns, equipment, and amulets. They may also run into opposing players doing the same thing.
The battle really starts when a magical storm appears to materialize a Shieldbreaker in the map. Shieldbreakers will break down the magical shields of your opponents’ base.
Ultimately, the core gameplay loop revolves around using the Shieldbreaker to raid and destroy your enemy’s base.
It’s a very involved game for sure, but now we’ll see if fans will like it enough to come back.
Highguard is now playable on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
