Red Dead Redemption 2 Remaster Probably Isn’t Coming Until April 2026

At least we still have a game to play.

videotechUK has set expectations on when Red Dead Redemption 2 could now arrive on the newest consoles.

The talk of the town is the launch of Red Dead Redemption on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. While this announcement did surprise everyone, we cannot deny that it is a good option for gamers who have the newer consoles to play it.

Double Eleven did put the work in to make this version as good as the updated version on PC, as best as they can make it. And, of course, it’s still a stone cold classic.

videotechUK said this when asked about Red Dead Redemption 2:

Unlikely to happen before March 2026 since RDR1 was the last remaster to release for this current financial year.

What Is Going On With All These Red Dead Redemption 2 Rumors?

Several well-known sources have been talking about a Red Dead Redemption 2 remaster for years now. As recently as last month, NateTheHate argued that the Red Dead Redemption remaster doesn’t ‘negate’ this other remaster from happening.

But if we were truthful, it does seem that these usually reliable sources got something wrong. We were led to expect that it was the Red Dead Redemption 2 remaster that was coming in this holiday.

One could theorize that there were people in Rockstar who knew there were leaks, and successfully planted some information to embarrass them. But that’s probably not how a game company would handle it if they identified a security breach or two.

Shouldn’t We Wait For Some “Newer” Ports Now?

It does seem that Double Eleven and Rockstar should now be working on making a Red Dead Redemption 2 remaster for the next generation of PlayStation and Xbox consoles now.

Maybe the Nintendo Switch 2 version is in development right now, but the case for the newer generation of its peers is Sony and Microsoft may launch their next generation of consoles in the next five years.

In fact, the rumors are swirling that these consoles could come as early as next year. For all we know, this is already the plan.

If so, Double Eleven may have already been working on the dev kits for these newer platforms for some time now. But there is reason to doubt that they have the Switch 2 dev kits, and that may also be the case with the others.

It is certainly also possible that Rockstar hasn’t started work on this at all, and the rumor is completely bogus. Rockstar seems to be happy not to tell us at all until the last minute, so we’ll have to wait a while to find out if this is the case or not.
