Rockstar may be adding a new tier to the premium Grand Theft Auto Online subscription, GTA+.

videotechuk_ shared this information on Twitter today:
Rockstar could be preparing to release a new GTA+ tier. Some sudden activity happened on Monday on Steam’s backend with a whole new Steam package on GTA+ main changelog.
Details are little right now, but if I had to guess it could be for ROME (the new FiveM rival) with additional benefits.
What Does SteamDB say?
videotechuk_ linked to this SteamDB entry of Rockstar update last November 3. Aside from GTA+, it also updated L.A. Noire, Bully: Scholarship Edition, and Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition.
Notably, these games are also part of the GTA+ subscription. So this could bolster the hypothesis that it affects everything in GTA+.
What Else Did videotechuk_ Find?
videotechuk_ also linked to this post from GTAForums user FulVal85. We’ll summarize what they said for the sake of clarity.
FulVal85 noticed that Rockstar’s Steam update only affected nine items, instead of all thirteen games under their name.
They also noticed that Rockstar Games Launcher had a beta update that affected all of their games under their own store.
Why Do We Think This Is Related To FiveM/ROME/GTA RP?
There is nothing in this data that says anything about GTA RP. So videotechuk_ is speculating, and he does say so.
But we can evaluate the reasons for this speculation, and it’s not that bad a guess. The main thing is Rockstar has demonstrated an interest in incorporating GTA RP to their games in an official capacity.
Two years ago, Rockstar acquired FiveM, the software used by the GTA RP community. They also acquired the dev team currently working on FiveM, CFX.re.
There has been speculation that Rockstar lost interest or wasn’t really interested in using FiveM itself. It’s known that Rockstar is making their own modding engine, called Rockstar Online Modding Engine (ROME).
Whether that’s true or not, Rockstar’s acquisition did accomplish something already. It has made all the GTA RP servers and their players legitimate users and players of Grand Theft Auto Online.
Most recently, Rockstar launched a new partnership with nopixel, the largest GTA RP server. This move had fans speculating that Rockstar would bring nopixel on consoles, or have even grander ambitions.
It makes sense for Rockstar to charge for GTA RP services. Rockstar could use a GTA+ tier to charge for access to GTA RP on PlayStation and Xbox. And this would be justifiable, since Rockstar is licensing with Sony and Microsoft to make that possible.
But that all depends on how far Rockstar has gotten with incorporating GTA RP. This is definitely something to look out for in Take-Two’s next investor meeting.
